KATS is working to complete the 2030 Transportation Plan by April, 2007. Many elements of the Plan development have begun, with opportunities for public input available.
Review of Goals and Objectives
The KATS Technical Committee and Policy Committee, along with the Citizens Advisory Committee, reviewed the 2030 Goals and Objectives. These goals and objectives help in the selection of projects that will become a part of the 2030 Plan. The 2030 Goals and Objectives were approved in November 2004. Click here to review the approved goals and objectives.
Identification of Projects
Work has begun on the identification of road projects that will address deficiencies in the street network in Kalamazoo County. Maps have been developed by the Michigan Department of Transportation using current and future projections in employment, population, and vehicles per household. Once the projects are identified, they will be tested by MDOT to determine if the deficiencies are eliminated or reduced.
Update:
MDOT has completed the testing of proposed projects for consideration in the Transportation Plan. Several alternatives (list of projects put in groups for testing) have been developed with the assistance of the various road and transit agencies in Kalamazoo County, as well as from input from the Citizens Advisory Committee. Maps of each alternative and the listing of projects being considered for the Transportation Plan are available below:
The public can comment on the projects chosen as part of the “alternatives” package by attending Technical Committee and Policy Committee meetings or by submitting comments through the KATS Comment Form. Click here for more information on the committee meeting schedules.

The network alternative has been chosen and is in the process of being modeled by MDOT. Click here to view the map showing what projects are being modeled for the 2030 Transportation Plan. A comprehensive list of the projects is available by clicking here.
Several environmental maps have been developed to look at the potential impact the proposed capacity projects may have on the environmentally sensitive areas in Kalamazoo County.

Non-Motorized Plan
Staff will be working with various agencies in Kalamazoo County, along with bicycle, pedestrian, and other non-motorized users, to outline the Non-Motorized Plan for Kalamazoo County. Currently a map is available for review of current facilities and proposed trailways/bike facilities for the 2030 Transportation Plan. Click here to view the draft Non-Motorized Map.
